December 6, 2018- March 1, 2019

The Jansen Art Center is pleased to welcome the Whatcom Art Guild to the Library for an exhibit of their work this winter. The exhibit, Whatcom Art Guild Explores Symbols and Signs, opens with a reception from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 6.

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

More than 50 years old, the Whatcom Art Guild is the oldest continually operating arts organization in Whatcom County. The Guild comprises over 120 artists, approximately one quarter of the artists are represented in this exhibit.

These artists have created their pieces observing this year’s theme of Signs and Symbols. Each day we rely on signs and symbols to guide us and to express meaning that exceeds the limit of thought and words. Our artists explore meanings both universal and personal, and as varied as the guiding presence of Mt. Baker, the markings left by hobos to lead their fellow travelers to safety, and symbols of longed-for hope and peace.
