January 11 – March 29, 2024
Opening reception Thursday, January 11 from 6-8pm
Simply stated, I paint because I enjoy doing it. Additionally, making art helps me to relax and to keep things in some kind of manageable perspective. Art is an incredibly meaningful vehicle to express and organize my observations, thoughts, and/or musings. What I also appreciate about the artistic process is the fact that there are so many ways to do it. An artist has boundless freedom to experiment, learn, and try new approaches. A blank canvas is a place to say something, capture a feeling, and have some fun. When doing figurative painting, my goal is to explore various aspects of the human condition: psychological, philosophical, and/or social. This means paying attention to how we see ourselves, how we interact with others, how we cope with our strengths and frailties, and how we express our feelings and emotions. The finished work may be satiric, ironic, empathetic, absurd, or even humorous but ultimately, I hope that the viewer will see that I have tried to say something about who we are as human beings. I intend my figurative paintings to be more like questions rather than explications. I hope you enjoy my work.
