Expired WESTFALIA: June 3
WESTFALIA
Saturday, June 3, 1:00-3:00 pm FREE
Join us at the J after the Farmer’s Day Parade for a free performance by local band, Westfalia from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Westfalia includes 6 members: Jeremy Vander Meulen, Liam Kroontje, Jake Kroontje, Cameron De Boom, Clayton Kaemingk, and Anna Olsen. The band members all attended Lynden Christian High School and participated in a varity of musical groups together such as worship team, jazz band and pep band. Westfalia started performing together about a year and a half ago, after lead singer JEremy Vander Meulen found out about a possible gig at a wedding reception. With little time to prepare, Vander Meulen and his friend Liam Kroonthe got a group together and started preparing at that event. They had such a great time, that they decided to keep working together and performing. Early on, the Jansen Art Center provided the group opportunities to perform at the Thursday night Piano Lounge events. Kroontje tells us, “Playing music is something that brings the band members and the people around us together. We have enjoyed every moment along the way so far and hope to continue on into the future.” Westfalia primarily performs classic rock and blues covers, but is currently working on writing some original songs as well. Since that first gig, they have continued to perform at weddings, class reunions, local charities, private parties and community music events. While you visit the J for the music, enjoy the four art exhibits that opened on June 1 (5th Annual Cup Show, 2017 Summer Juried Exhibit, LOOK. a collaboration by artists Barbara L. Miller and Dimitri C. Katsaros, and Games, Puzzles and Books an exhibit presented by the Whatcom Art Guild. -
