June 6 – August 30, 2019

The Jansen Art Center is pleased to welcome Kay D Little to the Chamber Hall for an exhibit of her work this summer. The exhibit, Innerspace, opens with a reception from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 6.

ARTIST STATEMENT

“I do not look to the real world when I sit down with pad, pencil and ruler but instead let my mind flow with what happens on the paper. I love to violate perspective because this sets up tension. I look for forms that interest me and break the mind and eye associations. I want the viewer to struggle to understand what they are looking at and find their own personal association. This line drawing is then applied to the canvas. Color sets up new challenges as the forms take on new meanings. The final result is bold color and geometric forms and sometimes whimsical creatures which I hope will tease and entertain the viewer. I give names to my paintings to hopefully guide the viewer into their world.”

Kay D Little attended the San Francisco Art Institute in the 70’s where she began painting her abstract canvases. Personal circumstances put her work on hold for a few years. In the 80’s Kay began right where she left off and has been painting ever since. These paintings represent work done from the late 1980’s through 2019.
