  • Posted by Margaux Mellott
  • Date May 11, 2023

2-week class with Margaux Mellott

Saturdays, May 11 & 25, 2024
2:00 – 4:30pm

Students will carve, stamp and hand-build texture makers for use in their personal ceramic/pottery practice. In this class we will explore how to design and carve our own brand “stamp”, how to make texture blocks for printing and how to build texture rolling pins. Explores some foundational ideas in hand-building- including working without bubbles, thickness recommendations/requirements for safe firing, accounting for shrinkage, clay “memory” and surface decoration with textures. The first class will be building coil, slab and extruder stampers (“blanks” and clay provided)- with thoughts about varied use and comfort of Grip. The second class will be testing and sharing our fired stampers while discussing lessons learned and ideas for future exploration. Students are encouraged to bring personal work to the testing class, but test cookies (slab strips) will be provided.
