Meet & greet with author, Christopher Key and cover artist, Trish Harding

Tuesday, June 6, 2023
5:00-6:30pm

Trish Harding’s painting Forming Terra is  featured in the 2023 Spring Juried Exhibit at the Jansen Art Center. This painting, by talented local artist Harding, is the cover artwork for Christopher Key’s novel of the same name, Forming Terra.

Join us on Tuesday, June 6 for a meet and greet and book signing with author Christopher Key and artist Trish Harding. There is no cost to join, but donations to the Jansen Art Center will be accepted.

ABOUT FORMING TERRA:

The human Diaspora has resulted in the race spreading through parts of a vast galaxy. But humanity has unfinished business back home on the Mother Planet. Terra is devastated as a result of the 21st century Climate Collapse. If humanity is to achieve racial maturity, it must accept the responsibility of making Terra habitable once again. How do you terraform Terra? That’s the task handed to the formidable Raven George and the overachievers she tends to attract. She finds help from an unexpected source as humans finally recognize cetaceans as their equals. It’s a whale of a tale!

"I really enjoyed your first book, Christopher!

What a cast of characters! All had such interesting cultural backgrounds and interests! This is how I imagine the world may be one day, when people will be of mixed race and more accepting of everyone’s gifts and talents; able to see one another’s strengths more than the flaws. Very cool that taiko drums make it into the future and onto a Planetbase!”

– Bonnie Soon, Taiko Professional

"The book’s main characters illustrate best what I like about your creation.

It seems on the surface that each has some superior ability or quality not granted to the rest of us, but it becomes evident that each one is simply what a human being who has gotten a lot closer to full potential looks and talks and acts like.  We should be so lucky now, in the 21st century, to have leaders with half the potency of those in your book.”

– Kit Vonnegut

“I am not so much a science fiction fan, but Christopher has turned science fiction into something more.

He has made a place that I can believe in. He has taken us from a destroyed Mother to a place  that will save the species. And he has done it well.”

– Eddie Lester

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: CHRISTOPHER KEY

Christopher Key was born in San Francisco, Terra, and currently lives in North Vancouver, Cascadia, with his wife, the oft-mentioned Reiko. Like many writers, he has had more day jobs than he can recall, but the mainstay was always journalism and that may have impacted the format of the book.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: TRISH HARDING

Trish Harding was born in Washington State and grew up on Lummi Island literally feet from the water’s edge with a magnificent view of Mt Baker at the same time. Her formal art training includes WWU, and The Academy of Art College, San Francisco. Trish is owner of Studio UFO in Bellingham, and teaches at Whatcom Community College, Creative Arts Community, and the Jansen Art Center among others. Her work is built with juicy paint washes, smart color choices, and a respect for the fluidity of the medium.
