The Jansen Art Center is pleased to welcome Lanny Little to the Fine Arts Gallery for an exhibit of his work this spring. The exhibit, Still Painting the Town, opens with a reception from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 7.
ARTIST STATEMENT
“When I moved to Bellingham in 1998 there was a 20’x100′ bare wall in the heart of Old Town. Previously I had painted murals for Interpretive Centers and museums as well as public murals in Northwest cities, so this eyesore was to me a welcome sight. It wasn’t long before a few civic-minded Old Town business owners agreed to help fund a mural at Bay and Holly. The City provided matching funds and the Old Town Mural became a reality. I went on to do the Village Green Mural, Welcome to Fairhaven Mural and the Carnegie Library Mural, to name a few. Concurrently, I was doing easel paintings of landscapes and cityscapes. I have always been fascinated with capturing the subtle and fleeting nature of light and color. I work from digital sources, painstakingly translating digital imagery into paint imagery. In 2005 I staged a solo show titled “Painting the Town” at The Blue Horse Gallery. Since then I have continued to record many of our local architectural icons, thus the title of this exhibition: Lanny Little: Still Painting the Town.”
Little received his Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Design from the San Francisco Art Institute. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Bellingham and is held in private and public collections, including the Whatcom Museum of History and Art.
