FEBRUARY 2- MAY 9, 2018
The Jansen Art Center is pleased to present an exhibit by Bellingham artist Evan Whitehead at The Inn at Lynden. The exhibit opens on February 2, 2018, and will be on display through May 9, 2018.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Freelance artist Evan Whitehead is native to Bellingham, growing up in the foothills of Whatcom County and the North Cascade Range. He attended local schools and Whatcom Community College while enjoying the natural beauty of Mt. Baker as his backyard.
The presence of the mountain, with its beauty and individualism, has been a focal point in Whitehead’s work. He sees Mt. Baker as “an icon of boundless creativity, inspiration, and individual freedom,” which he works to express through his paintings.
Whitehead is a self-taught artist who creates colorful landscapes inspired by Mt. Baker, the surrounding Nooksack Valley foothills, and Mt. Shuksan. He paints in acrylic on canvas, murals, walls, rock, wood, and fences – just about any surface that is made available.
A natural explorer and avid snowboarder and hiker, Whitehead has a love for the scenery around him. He utilizes the resources of the local mountains’ natural, wild beauty and originality to create visual art for others to appreciate “eternally and internally.”
