National Volunteer Week
THANK YOU!
It’s National Volunteer Week and we wanted to thank the volunteers that continue to help us deliver arts programming to Whatcom County and beyond!
Our volunteers greet visitors, staff the Gallery Shop, develop programming for our studios, performances, and exhibits, assist instructors during Kids Do Art!, take tickets, give tours, serve on our Board of Directors and help with fundraising.
The following are just a few of our many amazing volunteers. The one thing they all have in common is understanding the importance of the arts in our community.
Nancy Collier, Events Volunteer
Jane Coombs, Gallery Shop Volunteer

“Lynden’s own Nancy Collier is one of the Jansen Art Center’s most popular volunteers. Everyone knows and loves Nancy. She is a perfectionist and takes ownership of the J,” shares Events Coordinator Margaret Irvine.

“Jane is not only a volunteer in the Gallery Shop, but also a basketry artist! She is knowledgeable about the J and our programs, helps keep our displays fresh, engages with our visitors and is even a student in our painting classes – she represents the J in just about every way!” says Cindy Wadkins, Registrar and Carley Moore, Administrative Assistant.
Jay Jorgenson, Ceramics Studio Volunteer
Victor Pruner, Performance Volunteer

“Jay is an invaluable asset for the ceramics studio as our regular Thursday studio host and all-around fix-it guy. He is always ready, willing and able to help others and quick with a smile,” says Jesse Rasmussen, the Ceramics Studio Manager.

“He has worked for years to bring fantastic musicians to the J every Thursday night for Live in the Piano Lounge. He gets out there, meets the musicians, brings in the best of the best week in and week out. Victor is a ROCK STAR volunteer and we would not have the Piano Lounge music without him!” said Karen Visser, Music Coordinator.
Marla Sprouls, Exhibits & Events Volunteer

“What doesn’t Marla do?” asks Cynthia French, Marketing Manager. “She brings her art education background to help with the Exhibits Committee, sitting on the jury and helping hang the shows. She greets guests at events, has been the chair of our fundraising events committee, and helps create the welcoming atmosphere that the J has become known for.”
