Kids Do Art! Summer Camp – Recap and Pictures
JUNE 25 – 29, 2018
The Jansen Art Center welcomed 56 kids to this year’s Kids Do Art! Summer Camp program. Students ranged in age from 6 – 14 years old.
We had 50 students in our Morning Sampler – a program where they take a different class each day for the 5-day camp. This year’s morning sampler classes were Ceramics, Metal Arts, Painting, Theater, and Weaving.
31 students signed up for our week-long Afternoon Intensive classes. This year, we offered our younger students either a music class (Beethoven Comes to Camp) or a multi-disciplinary class (Creating Characters). Older students chose between ceramics (Big Wheels Keep on Turnin’) or textiles (Fabric Dyeing).
We asked the students what they enjoyed most about Kids Do Art! Summer Camp this year, and here are some of our favorite responses:
“Making the stuffed animal, weaving and clay,” Kenzie, age 7
“Learning and making something new every day,” Julia, age 11
“Painting class and trying new things,” Charles, age 11
“My favorite things were weaving and metal arts,” Bella, age 10
“I got to make lots of new friends,” Lilyana, age 6
“Weaving and acting were my favorites,” Laine, age 10
“Ceramics was awesome! Weaving was super fun!” Brody, age 7
“Everything!” Colton, age 7
WHAT’S NEXT?
Our next Kids Do Art! event is our Fall Open House, which will take place on Saturday, September 8. The Fall Open House is an event at the J that gives families in the community an opportunity to visit each of our studios and explore the various arts education programs we offer throughout the year.
There are also quite a few art classes taking place at the J for kids and teens this summer. You can see all of the available workshops here.
