Artist Statement
Selectively working from drawn or photographed sources, I look for revealing or realistic gesture drawn images. My canvases seek to reach a play between accurate or energetic charcoal drawing and freely rendered oil paint, ultimately framing plausible dynamic visual descriptions. I work from necessity and my compulsion to do it. I paint what I’m sure to love, like subjects that transcend: two dogs running in the snow, moonlight reflecting on a kitchen window frame, furtive shadows on a church floor or a model holding her own shoulders, bring about a pause that is like holding your breath.
