ARTIST STATEMENT
I have been a working artist for over 50 years. Following combat duty in Vietnam, I attended the Cornish School of Allied Arts. My studies included painting, sculpture, printmaking, and jewelry, and I became a master jeweler. Major influences in my artwork have been Chinese painting techniques, Expressionism and the atmosphere of the Skagit Valley.
I paint in an indirect style, using multiple transparent layers of paint to create a luminous atmospheric expression. Essentially my work conveys what the untrained and sometimes trained eye does not see, but senses; a feeling of quality, craftsmanship, and skill. As a master craftsman, I believe in thoroughly mastering the medium I am working in to produce an excellent piece of art from the support to the frame, so the artwork may be appreciated for generations.
This exhibit is brought to you in partnership with The Inn at Lynden.
