Artist Statement
As an artist with a Chicano/American background my art has always been influenced by the people, agricultural area, and culture of the Lower Yakima Valley. Works featured in From Then ‘Til Now include a mix of pieces spanning over two decades.
A few years ago, after a visit to the Lower Yakima Valley, I experienced a reconnection with my culture and heritage. New insights crafted and constructed. It inspired new creations, bright, bold paintings, depicting farm workers, the harvest, cultural and iconic images.
Since this experience, I have been working with a local nonprofit, which helps farm workers and their families, and a farm worker owned co-op farm. This continues to fuel my art, the love of my culture and its people, the people of the Sun.
