October 12 – December 1, 2017
Opening Reception: Thursday, October 12, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Falling Out of the Box is an annual jewelry design challenge hosted by the Jansen Art Center.
In the first year 35 artists submitted wearable artwork in the first Falling Out of the Box challenge: Falling Out of the Box. Last year, 39 artists participated in the Take a Wrist challenge to create a bracelet inspired by a risk taker.
This year’s theme is Holding Space. Artists are challenged to create an object that can hold something – another object, a memory or feeling – it can be literal or figurative. Participating artists started receiving their identical Material Boxes on Friday, September 1 and have until Wednesday, October 4th to finish and return their finished artwork.
The exhibit begins on Thursday, October 12 with an Opening Reception at the Jansen Art Center from 6:00 PM – 8:00 Pm. During the reception, many of the artists will be on hand to answer questions about their work; there will be Live Music in the Piano Lounge; the Firehall Cafe will be open and serving from it’s full menu of food and drinks; and attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Awards.
Some of the artists will be posting pictures of their progress on Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag #FallingOutoftheBox. Otherwise, we all have to wait until October 12 to see the final creations, but we hope that you will enjoy the images on this page from the last two Falling Out of the Box Jewelry Challenges at the Jansen Art Center.
