Upcoming Ceramics Independent Study
7-week guided practice with Michelle Crowe

For intermediate and advanced students. Students in independent studies bring their own ideas to try new techniques for wheel throwing, hand building, or sculpting with the aid of a professional ceramic artist. Students will set goals for one or two techniques they would like to learn during the 7-week course. Working with a professional instructor, students will gain feedback and techniques that will guide them to develop a thorough body of work. All guidance and advanced techniques will be catered to your specific style of work.
The 7-week course will include free open studio hours for implementing new techniques and developing a body of work. Independent research and self-direction on aesthetics, theory, and critical assessment are highly encouraged.

PREREQUISITES
Throwing students should know the basics, including centering and pulling a cylinder. Instructor can approve exceptions.

MATERIALS TO BRING
A hand towel, basic pottery tools, apron and clothes that can get dirty. The Kemper Pottery Tool Set is the recommended starter kit and can be purchased locally at the WCC Student Store, WWU Student Store or online through most pottery suppliers or Amazon. We have basic tools to borrow as well, so no worries!
