Upcoming Warp Painting

1 Day Textiles Skill Session
Thursday, November 2, 2023
11:00am–3:00pm
Come make your own custom-dyed warp! This is a great way to use up stash and emerge with a one-of-a-kind creation.
Bring one or two pre-wound warps consisting only of cellulose or bast fibers: cotton, linen, bamboo, rayon, ramie, or hemp. Make them no longer than 4-5 yards, because of our space constraints. These can be mostly white and natural yarns or can be yarns with some color. For yarns that have been previously dyed, try to choose ones of a lighter hue, since these colors will be over-dyed. Once the warps are wound, please tie choke ties in several places, and be sure to tie off the cross. Make those ties snug for transport and handling, but make them easy to loosen once the warp is arranged on the table – tie them like you tie your shoe.
We’ll be using fiber-reactive dyes, which take about 24 hours to cure, so you’ll be going home with yarns that need to be rinsed out later. We will provide instructions for you to take home, explaining rinsing, washing, and drying your warp.
We will provide the dyes. Please bring your pre-wound warp(s), an old towel, and a medium-sized plastic bag or bucket to carry items home. Wear old clothes so you won’t mind if you get a little dye on yourself.
