July 14–October 15, 2022

Artist Statement

If you have lived in the Pacific Northwest for a lifetime as I have, it is abundantly clear that climate change is raging here.

Example:
In 1957 we might not have see the sun from October to mid July except for two days in February. We used to say summer starts after the 4th of July. That is when we usually first saw the sun and winter coats were finally put away.

We never heard of wildfires in those days.

Fast forward to 2022.
The Pacific Northwest is famous for it’s pristine, crisp, windy & wet weather. That does not mean we don’t have our fair share of blinding sunlight and fast moving dramatic shadows. It is also known for it’s vibrant wetlands, home for all sorts of wild life and plants that are the life blood of our unique eco-system; a place that relies on water to help decay and nourish the ongoing cycle of life making it unmistakably clear that all things are connected.

As climate change rages across the planet, here in the Northwest we are experiencing more and more devastating flooding. But here is the dichotomy. We are also experiencing unprecedented wildfires at the same time. In my work these polarizing aspects of a warming planet speak to this frightening current state of affairs.

Fact: There are those out there who still deny Climate Change.
