Instructor: Todd Horton

Tiny Painting with Watercolors.

This class will teach you about painting the local landscape with watercolor, which I think may be the best medium of capturing the soft blending of colors in this area. We’ll look at what are the key components of form and color that one can quickly lay out to convey the beauty and magic of the area. You’ll make a lot of paintings during the class. It’s important to keep them vibrant and fresh so maybe only spending 10 to 15 minutes on each.

The great thing about painting on such a tiny format (2″x3.5″) is obviously the easy portability, be it painting outdoors while hiking or at café. It also has a sense of immediacy and a certain carefreeness. The smallness of the blank canvas or paper is less intimidating and thus one is more willing to take some chances which is often where the good stuff happens.

So, using the local landscape as our inspiration and framework for learning to appreciate the joy of tiny painting. But you’ll also be able to take what you learned in this class to painting with other mediums or subjects.
