Expired Teen Pottery: Creating on the Potter’s Wheel

6 Week Class

Dates: Tuesdays, November 16–December 21, 2021

Time: 4:30–6:00pm

Instructor: Dan Stockwell

This course introduces students to creating ceramic forms utilizing the potter’s wheel and a range of techniques: centering, throwing and trimming, firing, and glazing. Classes will consist of technical demonstrations, hyperlinks, work time, and individual instruction based on progress. Understanding of clay as a recyclable material and not every attempt to throw will be successful but persistence will be needed.

The first 4 weeks will be used to learn and throw pottery, week 5 will be used to glaze bisque ware and week 6 will be used to critique work.

AGES: Teens 13–18

CLASS FEES:
Members: $99.00
Non-Members: $110.00

MATERIALS FEES:  $28.00/bag of clay (Paid to the J)

Students need to bring a small pail for water. Beginning throwing sets can be bought at the J or at Dakota Art Supply. Students need to dress casually in clothes that will become dirty. Students need to wear shoes which are closed toe; no flip-flops or sandals. Students can also bring a towel.
