Instructor: Leona Foster

Music for Young Children (MYC) provides quality music education for children by blending the pleasure of music making with sound instruction. Its curriculum is designed to teach children the foundation of music and piano within a group setting. All MYC levels incorporate keyboard, rhythm ensemble, singing, solfege, ear training, and composition. Age appropriate activities using all four learning styles (visual, auditory, tactile, analytical) help develop their ability to play and read music.

Students register for a 8-week class in the Spring and have the option to continue working with Leona as the students progress in their musical skills. Here are the Winter courses by age that are being offered this year. If you have any questions about where to place your student or about the cost of the music books that are required for the program, please contact Leona at

SUNSHINE 1: Ages 3 – 4
Thursday, April 18 – June 13
2:00 PM – 2:45 PM

SUNSHINE 1 , the youngest of the keyboard programs, is the starting point of the MYC® Method for 3-4 year old beginners, building their foundation in music reading and playing the piano. Students experience movement through beats and rhythms, as well as developing their fine motor skills with rhythm instrument ensemble playing.

In SUNSHINE 1 children are introduced to the geography of the piano and note-reading with our friends Dancing Dinosaur and Fireman Fred. Their pre-reading experiences such as identifying like/different sorting, patterns, and reinforcing and recalling the music concepts through fun at-home activities with gluing and coloring are all part of this level. Please contact the teacher for approval before registering. There is limited space in the class but a second class will be considered if there is enough interest.
