2 Day Workshop

Dates: Saturday & Sunday, December 18–19

Times: 11:00am–6:00pm

Instructor: Leah Meleski

Silversmithing 101 builds on Beginning Jewelry principles and teaches how to work with sterling silver. Together we will create several styles of sterling silver rings. Each ring style assists in reviewing soldering skills through repeated practice. Once soldered, the shape of each ring will be manipulated through filing, sanding, and more. We will also review finishing and polishing practices. Students will leave class with 4 different styles of ring bands: 1 wire band, 1 tapered band, 1 wide band and 1 split band.

You can choose to finish one or two rings as gifts for yourself and/or others for the holidays or the rings can be utilized as the foundation for a solitaire ring with a setting on it. Stone setting classes will be scheduled for our winter term.

AGES: Adults 21+

CLASS FEES:
Member: $211.50
Non-member: $235.00

PREREQUISITES: This class is open to all levels, including beginning students. Basic knowledge of filing, sawing and soldering with an acetylene torch are helpful.

MATERIALS: $25 – $35 (Paid to the instructor on the day of class)

Students are encouraged to bring a pencil and a sketchbook/notebook and required to wear closed-toed shoes such as sneakers or boots and be able to tie long hair back for safety.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, December 8 at 12:00pm

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS: Masks are required for all students and instructors.

We continue to closely follow the guidance of our local health departments. If there are any changes to the safety protocols at the J we will update you promptly.
