Upcoming Phantasies in Polymer Clay: Mushroom Diorama
2 Week Class with Jessica Mase
Saturdays, September 28 & October 5, 2024
2 – 4:30 pm
For the Miniature Mushroom Diorama, students will get a mixed lesson of Polymer clay and a hodge-podge mixed media form of mosaics! Students will start by picking a stone or a wire form they would like to build upon. Students are more than welcome to bring their own small stone(no more than 2-3″), or wood that they would like to sculpt upon with them to class. The goal of this class is to sculpt small, artistic or fantasy inspired mushroom pieces to arrange on your stone, then utilize a range of mixed media elements such as beads, glass, moss, crystals, chains, and stones to decorate your door. We will use a mixture of tools and everyday items such as tooth brushes and foil balls to texture our pieces, then add dimension using chalk pastels and paint/markers to shade and highlight and enhance your chosen sculpts. We will also create a mushroom “cane,” a carefully designed snake of clay which when sliced will provide 3D mushrooms to climb up our base piece. Students will texture and shade their sculpts. Depending on the chosen base material, students will learn how to properly cure their pieces altogether or in stages, adding the cured clay to the base piece. Upon finishing the class, students will have a miniature forest fantasy piece to take home with them.
