Upcoming Phantasies in Polymer Clay: Fairy Doors
1 Day Workshop with Jessica Mase
Saturday, October 12, 2024
11 am – 3 pm
For the fair doors, we will start with either a template of a door shape, or students can freehand their design. We will use acrylic rollers and a deck of cards to learn how to achieve a smooth and even thickness of clay (a clay roller/pasta machine will also be available to people who find hand rolling difficult). We will learn how to texture our doors to make them look like real wood. From there we will add fun and whimsical design elements such as fantastical hinges, door knockers, stone steps, broomsticks, flowers, bushes, vines, etc. There will be a variety of mixed media elements such as beads, glass, moss, crystals, chains, and stones available to decorate your door. We will use a mixture of tools and everyday items such as tooth brushes and foil balls to texture our pieces, then add dimension using chalk pastels and paint/markers to shade and highlight. We will finish off learning how to properly cure polymer clay and seal if necessary. Double sided sticky tape will be available for attaching your brand new fairy door to a wall at home.
