The Jansen Art Center is pleased to present Sunday at 3, our Young Artist Concert Series, taking place on Sunday, April 23 at 3:00pm. Produced by local music instructor, Jeri Mercer, Sunday at 3 is designed as a program to allow young, semi professional artists to perform work showcasing the advancement of their skills. “We hope to apply the talent slowly acquired alone, in the practice room, to the real world of the community, a live audience who will respond and encourage these young people,” says Mercer.
The concert on April 23 is the final concert of the series for this season.
The concert on April 23 will feature a performance by Mane Event, the Lynden High School Advanced Choir, directed by Ginger White. The choir is accompanied by Becky Gerlach, and includes the following LHS students: Griffith Assink, Ethan Blankers, Sarah Brossow, McKenna Button, Haylee Dell, Tate Hutchins, Micah Kussmann, Cam Oliver, Dylan Phillips, Ramces Salgado, Savannah Sartain, Victoria Shanahan, Paul Sires, Kiarra Snapper, Tori Snyder, Josh Stewart, Bella Tokar, Bianca Tovar and Payton Umbaugh.
The concert will also feature 9 year old solo pianist Maria Hollen. Maria is a third grader at Lowell Elementary School in Bellingham who began studying the piano at age four with Katie O’Rourke. Last year, she studied with Rebecca Manalac, and currently takes lessons from Milica Jovanovic, who is an Associate Professor of Music at Western Washington University, and who also happens to be Maria’s mother. Maria writes that “her favorite hobbies are reading and swimming” but that she also “likes to go to school and perform her piano pieces.” While one of our youngest performers, Maria is not new to performing – this will be her 35th concert.
Additional performers include The Clarinette Trio comprised of Augustin Wright (piano), Olivia Cho (cello), and Victor Mangas (clarinette), vocalist Liv King, pianist Micah Hollens, pianist Lara Marianne Hamzavi, and top performers from the Lynden Music Teacher’s Association’s recent Martha Helder Honors Recital, Wiley Kirk and Jacob VanderHeiden.
Sunday at 3 is a family friendly concert series, and students and families are encouraged to attend.
Admission to Sunday at 3 is by donation. All donations help the Jansen Art Center continue its youth programs such as Sunday at 3, Kids Do Art! youth camps and open houses, our High School Showcase open mic and more!
