Falling Out of the Box is an annual jewelry design challenge hosted by the Jansen Art Center.

The exhibit begins on Thursday, October 18 with an Opening Reception at the Jansen Art Center from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. This year’s challenge is inspired by torch songs and will involve creating a wearable piece of metal jewelry.

Artists of all skill level are encouraged to participate – the challenge involves the fabrication of metal jewelry from supplies provided in the mystery Material Box. In order to participate, artists register by purchasing a Material Box and then have 5 weeks to complete a piece. This year there are 42 participants entered from all over the world; Australia, Alberta, Arkansas, Alaska, Canada, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, and ten different cities in the state of Washington! Each artist will get 5 weeks to complete their piece using the identical materials given in their box.

During the reception, many of the artists will be on hand to answer questions about their work; there will be Live Music in the Piano Lounge with Paul Klein; the Firehall Cafe will be open and serving from its full menu of food and drinks; and attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Awards.
