In this weekend workshop, students will learn how to create volume in metal with the use of a hydraulic press. They will utilize these techniques to make a one of a kind locket.
During day 1 of the workshop we will review how to create volume with a dapping block and add hinges to make a small locket sample. During Day 2 & 3 students will create a silhouette die and an embossing die to be used with our hydraulic press. The hydraulic press allows you to create volume and/or texture with sheets of metal. A silhouette die allows you to produce a consistent pillow-form, while an embossing die produces a texture or pattern on their metal and can be created by soldering wire or sheet to another piece of metal.
Students will leave class with a small locket sample with a hinge, completed silhouette and embossing dies and samples they’ve created using their dies.
