6 Week Class

Dates: Wednesdays, November 17–December 22, 2021
Time: 2:00–4:30 PM

Instructor: Jesse Rasmussen

If you love texture, clay, and raw natural forms then you will love kurinuki. This Japanese term relates to a particular hand forming process where solid blocks of clay are hollowed out to obtain interior space. This class will incorporate kurinuki for functional work such as tea bowls, jugs, teapots, cups and more. There will also be discussions on sculptural work and wall pieces using this technique. Found objects such as sea shells, rocks, and tree bark will be used to incorporate texture while the form is paddled into position. Glaze and firing strategies specific to this style will also be covered to enhance your work. Get ready to look at clay in a whole new way with this exciting technique.

The cost of this course includes 23 hours per week of free open studio time for extra practice.
