The Jansen Art Center is pleased to present a solo recital by local pianist Gabriel B. Mañalac II.  This program, which is part of his work towards his doctoral program at the University of Washington, showcases a wide variety of pieces that bring out the coloristic possibilities of the modern piano.  These pieces include Beethoven’s 7th Piano Sonata in D Major, a masterpiece of his early period.  This will be followed by Robert Schumann’s virtuosic Toccata, considered to be one of the most difficult pieces written for the piano.  The second half will consist of works by two composers whose mutual admiration inspired many great works of music.  It will begin with selections from Claude Debussy’s sets of Preludes that will transport listeners to imaginative soundscapes.  The program will end in Spain with Manuel de Falla’s Fantasia Baetica where echoes of the country’s treasured flamenco tradition can be heard.  Children and adults are welcome to come to enjoy this wonderful afternoon of music!
