4 Week Class with Leah Meleski

Explore foundations in forging new shapes out of wire. During class we will explore how to transform stock wire, ingots into new shapes. This class allows you to stretch your vision and experiment with new techniques, pushing your work to develop into something new and different. Techniques covered in class will include tapering, twisting, and forming. Tools used will include the rolling mill, a variety of hammers, anvils and vices. Using these techniques, we will discuss and design a unique self-guided project.
Students will build onto skills learned in beginning jewelry classes and forging onward. They will leave class with a variety of sample forging techniques and plans for a forged piece of jewelry or sculpture.

Adults 16+
PREREQUISITES
Students must have taken Jewelry 1 or other beginning jewelry class and comfortable using a jewelers saw, files and a torch.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE

MATERIALS TO BRING
Students are encouraged to bring a pencil and a sketchbook/notebook and required to wear closed-toed shoes and be able to tie long hair back for safety.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: Masks are optional.
