Upcoming Double Weave
4 Day Workshop with Sheri Ward
Fridays & Saturdays, December 6–7 & 13–14, 2024
12 – 3 pm
Double Weave – weaving two layers of cloth at a time – is possibly one of the most magical weaving structures. The simple idea of weaving two layers of cloth at a time, and connecting them however you like provides an amazing range of possibilities. In this class, we’ll learn how to weave two layers, a tube, a double-wide cloth, and how to exchange and interlock the two layers. Students will weave samples of various double-weave techniques, and then small projects of their choice.
In addition to projects on individual looms, there will looms set up with two other projects: a double-weave color gamp and an overshot-inspired double weave.
Looms are to be warped prior to the first class, following directions provided by the instructor. You may choose your own colors for warp and weft from materials provided, or bring suitable yarns of your own. You may use one of the studio looms or bring your own.
Students should have some familiarity with warping a loom, although help will be available. If you would like help, please come to the Textile Studio on Tuesday, Dec. 3 between 11 and 3, or arrange an alternate time with the instructor.
