Upcoming Dixieland All Stars, jazz
Saturday, February 8, 2025 | 3 pm
Join us as the Dixieland All-Star Band brings a Mardi Gras Celebration to the Jansen Art Center. The afternoon will include an umbrella parade and the audience is welcome to dress for the occasion. You won’t want to miss this fun and engaging event at the J!
The Bellingham Dixieland All-Stars is known for its artistry and “new Dixieland jazz music.” Band Leader Bob Storms has composed over 2,000 songs and tunes that get people on their feet and tapping their toes. People love to listen to the band’s music from the 20s, & 30s, which is considered the Dixieland Era.
Every toe will be tapping as the All Stars perform songs from their extensive repertoire, like Louis Armstrong’s Hello Dolly and What a Wonderful World. Vocalist Nancy Button “lives the songs,” bringing jazz from the past century to life. The band consists of: Bob Storms, leader & reeds; Nancy Button, vocalist; Frank Kuhl, trumpet; Isaac Poole, trombone; John Flancher, bass; Tim Volpicella, guitar; Randal Wade, piano; and Brent Storms, drums.
Dixieland jazz emerged in the early 20th century in the South, particularly in New Orleans. It is a musical genre that transcends regional or historical connotations and focuses on a particular jazz style with its own musical characteristics and influences.
