Study Group with Sheri Ward
First meeting: Thursday, November 10 at 11:00 am
This study group will be based on a workshop created and taught by Liz Moncrief. She will introduce the topic via a Zoom presentation on the first day we meet, and then we’ll use her workshop notes to learn all about Crackle Weave.
We’ll learn the fundamentals of Crackle Weave structure and drafting, then explore the many treadling variations there are. Crackle Weave is a very gregarious weave structure and she likes to visit all the other major weave families, so you’ll learn something of twills, summer & winter, overshot and lace in the process.
This is an excellent study group to learn and understand components of weave structures such as tied weaves, two tie and double two tie, and to apply them to a basic crackle draft.
Each participant will be given the same draft and we will weave a minimum of ten samples using different treadlings and tie-ups. This is primarily a 4-shaft weaving study group, however there is also an 8-shaft draft if you would prefer. Drafts and instructions will be sent out to participants well ahead of time.
