2 Weeks

Friday, October 19 – 26
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Instructor: Sheri Ward

One of the starting points in designing a handwoven project is to make the draft, which is the plan for threading the warp and treadling the weft. This can, of course, be done by hand, but computer drafting can be a great help! This class will introduce weavers to the basic features of Fiberworks, a computer program for designing weaving drafts. With it, you can experiment with color, threadings, and various treadle options to preview what your cloth will be like.

Fiberworks is available as a free download for either Macs or PCs, to allow people to try it before buying it. (However, if you wish to save or print any of your work, purchase is required.) Students would find it helpful to download the free version prior to class, and, if they have a laptop, bring that to class. There will also be a laptop computer available in the studio that students can use.

Fiberworks downloads can be found at http://www.fiberworks-pcw.com. In class, we’ll be working with the “Silver” version, not “Bronze” or “Silver Plus.”
