Upcoming Beginning Willow Basketry

Create your very own willow basket—perfectly sized to cradle a cantaloupe (or whatever treasures you like)! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn to weave a classic round stake-and-strand basket using a 3×3 base and 18 uprights. We’ll shape the sides with a traditional waling weave and finish it off with a striking “4-rod behind-1” border.

Along the way, you’ll get comfortable with willow weaving tools (provided for you), pick up essential basketry vocabulary, and learn how to safely handle sharp tools while weaving. We’ll also dig into the life cycle of willow—how it’s grown, harvested, stored, and soaked to become the perfect material for weaving.

Whether you’re brand new to basketry or want to expand your skills, this workshop will leave you with a beautiful, functional piece and a new appreciation for willow!
