Board Announces Cluny Madison as the New Jansen Art Center Executive Director
Cluny and Brad fell in love with Lynden on a recent visit.
In April 2023, the Jansen Art Center board announced the beginning of an Executive Director search to identify their next leader. After an extensive search process led by members of the Human Resource Committee, we are pleased to announce that Cluny Madison has been selected as Executive Director, beginning September 25, 2023.
Adrienne Stewart, Board President, expressed her enthusiasm for Cluny’s appointment, stating, “Cluny’s unique blend of leadership, expertise, and creativity is a perfect fit for the Jansen Art Center. We are confident that her vision and strategic insights will contribute significantly to our ongoing growth and success.”
The Human Resources Committee received more than 37 applications from candidates across the country for the Executive Director position. Over the past four months the Committee conducted a rigorous and thorough process of reviewing these applications and holding multiple stages of interviews with numerous well-qualified candidates. Jansen Art Center staff, studio head leaders, and the full Board of Directors participated and provided feedback during the various stages of this process.
With significant consideration given to the skills, experiences and expertise needed to successfully guide the Jansen Art Center in its next phase of growth, the Board unanimously selected Cluny Madison to serve in this important leadership role. Cluny’s current position is the Executive Communications lead for the National Audubon Society. She has extensive nonprofit leadership experience and was Executive Director with ECOSS (the Environmental Coalition of South Seattle), Acting Executive Director and Deputy Director with Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center in Redmond, and Marketing & Communications Director with The Nature Conservancy in Florida and Washington states. She brings the Jansen Art Center a wealth of knowledge and experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, team building, and promoting a culture of belonging.
Her passion for nature and the arts has been a strong driver throughout her career. “Leading the art center is an opportunity to take this to a new level,” she told us. “Nature is a muse for the arts, and art connects people to the beauty and importance of our natural world and rural communities.”
As the Jansen Art Center begins its next chapter, there is much to be excited about as we celebrate our programs. Staff, board members and partners have been busy developing the organization’s Fall 2023 Program of Events and Classes.
Cluny says, “The Jansen Art Center is a treasure and punching well above its weight for a small community. Its robust programming easily rivals centers in larger cities. And more importantly, it is the creative heart and home for the Lynden community. I am honored to join the team and lead the J to even greater success.”
Cluny’s leadership, the organization’s success, and impact in achieving its mission and vision will continue to flourish. Please join us and the Board in welcoming Cluny as Executive Director! You can also send your congratulations to Cluny by posting on the Jansen Art Center’s Facebook or Instagram pages, or by emailing Cluny at [email protected].
We thank you all for your continued support and partnership as we welcome Cluny into her new role. We look forward to continuing to grow stronger together!
